What it does ...

WinPT can track the thousands of dollars in printing costs from any Windows application such as WordPerfect, Microsoft Word and Excel. Even if you don't rebill your clients for laser printing, WinPT will allow you to analyze your laser printer usage by operator, client and non-client work. You can use this information to start or change billing practices.

Monitors printers, records printing information
WinPT automatically monitors printers, and asks for a billing code when someone prints something. The streamlined user interface asks for only a billing code, nothing else. WinPT then lets the print request go to the printer, and it records a log file that contains the billing code, who printed the document, the document name, and the number of pages printed.

WinPT automatically collects client billing code, operator, date & time, and document name. When printing is requested you must enter a billing code before the document will be printed. You can specify which applications utilize WinPT.

Integrates with Accounting
WinPT's log files can be imported into most legal accounting packages. The authentication version of WinPT can also be configured so it only accepts billing codes which match codes in the accounting system. These powerful features ensure that the information WinPT records is accurate, and useful.

Provides comprehensive reports
WinPT comes with a spreadsheet analysis program which provides detailed breakdowns of the information in the log files. The spreadsheet shows the number of printed pages per billing code and per user, as well as broken out by printer, giving you a clear picture of what is generating your printing costs.

Flexible Configuration
WinPT can be deployed easily in any environment. It can be set up to work with any existing billing system. It can also be set up to only ask for billing codes when certain applications are used. For example, it could be set up so that it only tracks documents printed from a word processor, but not from your e-mail program. It can also be set to only track specific printers. It can even be set to ignore single copy print jobs and only track multiple copies.

How it works ...

Low overhead
WinPT uses up very few system resources and runs quietly in the background, waiting for someone to print something. WinPT traps print jobs as they are created by each application. Then, it just asks for a billing code and creates a log file for the print job. This simple system puts very little load on the computer, and still captures all the information necessary for an effective cost recovery system.

Flexible Deployment
WinPT is available in workstation and client/server versions. The server version is especially suited to environments where larger print servers have hundreds of print queues.

Custom integration
WinPT can be easily modified to work with the custom needs of your office. It can be configured to only ask for a code when more than a certain number of copies are printed. When integrated with Infoware’s Multi-Print tool, part of the Word Extensions package, WinPT can ask for a billing code one time when multiple print requests are being sent (for example, one billing code for a document, it’s envelope, and a file copy). In a PCDocs or Imanage environment, billing codes can be passed directly to WinPT without a dialog box even appearing. Custom integration with any application is possible, thanks to WinPT’s flexible COM interface

Pricing and Compatiblity

WinPT is available for all versions of Windows, and works with any application. A client/server version is available for NT/2000 servers. Pricing starts at $139 per user for the regular version and $180 per user for the version with authentication (to connect with an accounting system).
