Infoware's custom extensions to Microsoft Word simplify the generation of office documents. Letters, memos, labels and envelopes can be created with a few basic steps, promoting firm standards and reducing time spent formatting document layout. Users can set details such as direct phone numbers, email addresses and signing lines that are automatically input into the document that they generate. Multiple lawyers' information can be stored simplifying secretarial work-sharing. The easy-to-use interface can also accommodate InForm court forms or other firm templates.

What it does ...

Infoware's Word Legal Extensions (Word LX) turns Microsoft Word from a general purpose word processor, into a precise tool that is specifically suited to the needs of your office. Word Legal Extensions adds new toolbars that make powerful and complex features of Word more accessible. Each button on the new toolbars gives users direct access to particular features of Word without having to go through the menus or deal with extraneous options. Here are a few of the key capabilities:

Uses custom templates
A major part of improving Word is creating the right document templates for your office. Part of Word Legal Extensions is a series of standardized templates that provide a common foundation for all your letters, memos, faxes, labels and envelopes. These templates integrate with the New Document button on the toolbar, so it's as easy as possible to start working on the exact document you want.

Organizes documents better
Long or complicated documents can have several sections, including a cover page, a table of contents, a body of text, and then appendices, schedules, and so on. Word Legal Extensions makes it simple to organize all these sections. By clicking on the New Section button, you can add particular kinds of sections to a document, so the headers, footers and other formatting options will be automatically adjusted, according to the kind of section you chose.

Paragraph numbering and page numbering is improved too. With Word Legal Extensions, you can adjust these options right from the toolbar, instead of going through several menus and dialog boxes. Different kinds of documents require different numbering styles, and Word Legal Extensions lets you pick from predefined styles that match your particular requirements.

Easily adds non-standard features to documents
Most documents include more than just words. For instance, there can be watermarks behind the text, or signing lines at the end of the document. Word Legal Extensions includes options for easily adding these kinds of features. There are specific toolbar buttons for adding watermarks, multiple kinds of signing lines, letterhead style text, and "draft stamps" along the edge of the page, to distinguish a printout from the final version.

Provides advanced printing capabilities
Word Legal Extensions has a unique multi-print feature, which allows for the printing of more than one document at once. Multi-print also allows you to direct certain documents to certain printer trays. For example, drafts can go to the tray with plain paper, and final copies to the tray with letterhead paper.

How it works ...

The custom Word Legal Extensions load inside of Microsoft Word adding additional toolbars, menu selections and icons. Replacing the "New" button, the "New Document Forms" buttons opens a dialog box that prompts users to select the particular document they wish to generate. Having previously identified the lawyer or author of the document, the custom Word Legal Extensions use this information to build the document.

Legal Extensions New Document interface

In the case of a letter, the user is prompted to enter additional information including the addressee, handling, reference line and matter particular to the correspondence. An additional feature is the Contact Lookup utility that searches the personal and firm contact list in Microsoft Outlook to find the suitable address.
