Troubleshooting - Document Assembly

  • Document Assembly Clause Tool always pops up the dialog to pick the source Clause Document.
    Reason:
The Clause Tool automatically looks for a "clause data document" to use as the source for new clauses. The program automatically uses the name of the template on which the document you are building is based. More specifically, the name used to find the source clause document is the portion of the template name up to the first period. See the manual for more details on naming.

If the document you are building is based on normal.dot template then the Clause Tool will look for "normal.doc" in the current "clause data folder". If a file named normal.doc is not found in the folder the Clause Tool will present the File Open dialog to specify the location of the source Clause Document. (Note that the data folder is stored in a registry setting and can be set by the administrator.)

Why this might happen unexpectedly: Word sometimes (without you noticing) will save a template as a document. This happens often with Word 2002 and Word 2003 if you are editing a template and saving it into a folder that is not in the default User or Workgroup Template folder.

You can determine the name of the template a document is based on by looking at the Tools, Templates and Add-ins menu or by looking at the bottom of the File, Properties, Summary tab.

If you have a clause template that is showing that it is attached to normal.dot you need to resave it using the SaveAs command in Word and set the "Save as type" to "Word Template".
  • How do you install the Document Assembly Suite? I unzipped the files to a directory and double clicked on install.exe it came up with the message it was looking for the link library file MSVBVM60.dll.
    Resolution:
This is a file that is part of the Visual Basic 6 runtime environment. It should be a standard part of a Windows XP install. The VB6 runtime appears not to have been installed on your machine.

We do not generally ship the runtime as it adds to the size of the distribution and most new machines have it. A compressed .cab file that contains a self-extracting executable file is available for download. To download this file, visit the following Microsoft Web site: http://activex.microsoft.com/controls/vb6/vbrun60.cab.

This file installs the latest versions of the Visual Basic run-time files. All applications that are created with Visual Basic 6.0 require the latest versions of the Visual Basic run-time files.
